Robert Dallet

Robert Dallet is a French animal painter born in 1923 near Etretat (Normandy).
In 1985, Hermès called on him for a collaboration and offers to draw a Carré. This first scarf, called "Kenya", will be a great success and will be the beginning of a long collaboration between the artist and Hermès.

Kenya : the first Carré by Dallet

At the end, Robert Dallet has drown 25 scarves. The most famous scarves are "Jungle Love", "Sichuan", "Guépards", "Les Girafes". We could also add "La Trève de l'Eau", "Equateur", "Tanzanie", "Les Zèbres", "Les Mustangs" and last but not least "Les Quatre Saisons".

Today, I won't talk about the most famous carrés but about "Les Quatre Saisons"(the Four Seasons), which is an illustration of the Flora and Fauna of the Camargue through the changing seasons. This scarf has only been issued once for the AW 1994/95 collection.
My scarf is not in silk twill but in cashmere and silk, which makes it perfect for the cold temperatures that we had in France at the beginning of the year ! And today is maybe one of the last days I can wear it before a few months...

Voici en détail les quatre saisons...
Here are the four seasons...

Printemps - Spring
Eté- Summer
Automne - Fall
Hiver - Winter

Here is the scarf in action. Today, I have chosen to show the wintery scene to match the scarf with my grey jumper.

Some of the most famous scarves by Robert Dallet :

  1. Lovely Quatre Saisons so beautiful in cashmere and silk . The rich red colours are wonderful for you.i especially love the cameo of the Camargue horses with flamingos in the distance.
I love wildlife and have had a few H scarves with this theme.Unfortunately they didn't tie very well as the inner detail became lost , so I did not keep them.
Now coup de foudre for this one...

  2. Dallet captures wildlife incredibly well, no wonder H asked him back so often.

  4. You're right Estrella and Iris j, this design is wonderful because of the 4 cameos, so depending on my mood and my outfit, I can choose the "season" that I want and admire it like a painting (the details are amazing), it is almost like having four scarves in one!
Thank you for your approbation for the red color.

  5. Beautiful! Thank you for the detail photos, because they really underscore the delicacy in the design. It's not one I've looked at, but now I will, and you wear it exceptionally well.

I must admit (I'm chagrined), I don't often think about the designers of the H scarves, so this post was really informative. There are THREE scarf designs I love that Robert Dallet designed--Giraffes, Zebras (I really should have gotten the pareo of this while in Paris--sigh!), and Mustangs. Thank you, then, for teaching me more about this artist!

  9. Curator,
I have a cardigan from Hermès with silk in the front, it is leopard (much easier to wear than the horses on the camisole ;-))
